Title

Vote to approve a contract with Smith Gardner, Inc. for closed landfill monitoring

Abstract

Introduction & Background: The closed county landfill requires quarterly testing for methane gas and semiannual testing of its ground water monitoring wells.  In addition, the County performs voluntary quarterly water testing of several potable water wells on properties adjacent to the landfill. Smith Gardner, Inc., is an engineering firm who comes out to take the samples, sends them to a lab for testing and provides an analysis report to County staff and to the State.

Discussion & Analysis: Smith Gardner, Inc. has been conducting testing on the landfill for many years. They have developed a familiarity with the landfill and kept staff informed of any potential issues from the sampling results, as well as informing staff about changes to the testing protocols which occur from time to time.

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: Objective 5: Conserve Natural Resources

Budgetary Impact: The budgetary impact of this contract has already been factored into the FY24 approved budget.

Recommendation/Motion: Motion to approve a contract with Smith Gardner, Inc. for closed landfill monitoring
