Title
Vote to waive the courthouse rental fee for Volunteers for Youth to hold Teen Court
Abstract
Introduction & Background: Teen Court has been held in the historic courthouse for many years and rental was organized by the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office for Chatham County Partnership for Children. Since the Sheriff's Office is a department, they were not charged a fee.
Discussion & Analysis: Juvenile Crime Prevention Council has since contracted with Volunteers for Youth, a non-profit in Carrboro, to administer the Teen Court program. The Sheriff’s Office is no longer the organizer for the building; therefore a fee would be accessed for the use of the building.
Since, this is an important program with the court system, Staff is recommending that the Board of Commissioners waive the rental fee.
How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: This program provides dispositional options and delinquency prevention services, which is a goal identified by the Board of Commissioners.
Budgetary Impact: No budgetary impact is anticipated.
Recommendation/Motion: Motion to waive the courthouse rental fee for Volunteers for Youth to hold Teen Court.
