Vote to adopt a resolution approving the 2025 Board of Commissioners Meeting and Budget Calendars
Abstract
Introduction & Background: North Carolina General Statute 153A-40 states that the board of commissioners shall hold a regular meeting at least once a month and may hold more frequent regular meetings. The board may by resolution fix the time and place of its regular meetings. If such a resolution is adopted, at least 10 days before the first meeting to which the resolution is to apply, the board shall cause a copy of it to be posted on the courthouse bulletin board and a summary of it to be published.
Discussion & Analysis: Each year the Board of Commissioners has chosen to adopt a resolution with the dates affixed. In the past the Board of Commissioners have identified the first and third Mondays of the month as regular meeting dates, although over the past five years, most of the first Monday meetings have been cancelled in the months of February, March, April, June, August, October. Staff are recommending the removal of these first Monday dates on the 2025 calendar.
The first Monday meeting in January, July, and September are never scheduled because of the conflicts with the holiday schedule. The first Monday meetings in May and November are part of the budget calendar therefore they are held each year. The first meeting in December is held every other year after an election.
The Board of Commissioners can always call a Special Meeting with 48-hours' notice, as they have done in the past, for discussions or presentations of items needed outside of a regular scheduled meeting. Some of the past items have included UDO and Moncure Area Plan.
The Board of Commissioners 2025 calendar includes twenty-three meetings, some of which are full days. This schedule should be more than adequate to handle the required business before the Board of Commissioner's throughout the year.
