Vote to adopt a resolution amending the Chatham County Alcohol and Drug Free Workplace Policy
Abstract
Introduction & Background: The Chatham County Alcohol and Drug Free Workplace Policy, establishes the general guidelines for ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of all employees and the public they serve by maintaining a work environment free from the effects of alcohol and drug abuse. Periodically, it is necessary to amend the policies for clarification or to better meet the needs of the employees and the County.
Discussion & Analysis: The Chatham County Alcohol and Drug Free Workplace Policy was originally adopted June 1991 and was last revised on March 2018. The following minor changes were made to the policy for clarification:
Changing Triangle J Council of Governments to Central Pines Regional Council to reflect the organization’s recent name change;
Adding the definition of drug as Drug/Controlled Substance as “a controlled substance as defined in G.S. 90-87(5) or a metabolite thereof” for clarification and
Adding the definition of a Safety Sensitive Position as “a position is a position requiring the operation of vehicles, machinery, equipment and/or the handling of hazardous materials, the mishandling of which may place fellow employees or the general public at risk of serious injury, or the nature of which would create a security risk in the workplace” and listing the County’s safety-sensitive positions for clarification.
