Vote to adopt and present a Proclamation Honoring Black Maternal Health Week in Chatham County

Abstract

Introduction & Background:

Equity for Moms and Babies Realized Across Chatham (EMBRACe) seeks to ensure successful and equitable birth outcomes for women and babies in Chatham County, NC, through system and service alignment across the following partners: Chatham County Public Health Department, Chatham Hospital, UNC Family Medicine, Piedmont Health Services, Chatham County Department of Social Services, and the Chatham Health Alliance.

The project is an outcomes-focused initiative launched out of ongoing efforts in the county to work collaboratively across sectors to address the root causes of the county’s most pressing health disparities.

The services to ensure that all women who receive prenatal, intrapartum and postpartum services from project partners are treated with dignity and respect, establish an evidence-based continuum of services, and lead data and community-informed systems-level initiatives to address psychosocial barriers to positive birth outcomes.

The project is administered through the Chatham County Health Department.

Discussion & Analysis:

EMBRACe has requested the Chatham County Board of Commissioners approve and present a Proclamation Honoring Black Maternal Health Week in Chatham County, so it may bring awareness to this important issue.

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: Plan Chatham recognizes the importance of fostering a healthy community, and EMBRACe focuses on improving the access to health care to address the root causes of one of the county’s most pressing health disparities, black maternal health.

Budgetary Impact: There is no budgetary impact to honor Black Maternal Health Week.

Recommendation/Motion: Motion to approve and present a Proclamation Honoring Black Maternal Health Week in Chatham County.
