Title

Vote to adopt and present a Proclamation Honoring Women’s History Month in Chatham County

Abstract

Introduction & Background:

During Women’s History Month, we celebrate the courageous women who have helped our county build a more just society.

Throughout Chatham County’s history, the vision and achievements of powerful women have strengthened our county and opened the doors of opportunity wider for all of us.

Though their stories too often go untold, all of us stand on the shoulders of these sung and unsung trailblazers, from the women who took a stand as suffragists, abolitionists, and labor leaders to pioneering scientists and engineers, groundbreaking artists, and the proud public servants here in Chatham County.

Discussion & Analysis:

County staff encourage those in attendance to wear purple, green and white in honor of the women who've paved the way and continue to do so today. The colors, which represent women’s history have roots from the suffrage movement.

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: There is no single goal in the Plan Chatham that relates directly to the adoption of a proclamation honoring Women’s History Month, but it should be noted that without the incredible women living and working for Chatham County, we would not be able to obtain any of our goals.

Budgetary Impact: Honoring Women’s History Month in Chatham County has no budget impact, although the fiscal impact of women in Chatham County is immeasurable.

Recommendation/Motion: Motion to adopt and present a Proclamation Honoring Women’s History Month in Chatham County.
