Title

Vote on a request to approve allocating $333,500.00 from Utility Capital Reserve for the water system’s Hwy. 902 Booster Pump Station Chemical Feed Project.

Abstract

Action Requested: Vote on a request to approve allocating $333,500.00 from Utility Capital Reserve for the 902 Booster Pump Station Chemical Feed Project

Introduction & Background: The original budget for the 902 Booster Pump Station Chemical Feed Project was $100,000, based on costs for a similar project at the Alex Cockman Tank.  However, with this project we were required by the state to have the project engineered and then submit the plans to them for approval.  To meet the state’s requirements, we had to make changes that included a containment area for chemical storage, SCADA upgrades for advanced programming, and have additional safety equipment installed.  Without the new chemical feed, we cannot keep the monochloramine residuals at the required levels for some areas of the water system. Mainly, High Falls School, Silk Hope School, and the entire Bennett area

Discussion & Analysis: Completion of the project allows constant feed of monochloramines to the High Falls, Bennett, and Silk Hope areas, and reduces the need for flushing of the waterlines, saving both money and thousands of gallons of water.  The constant feed of monochloramines will also ensure compliance with Moore County where the High Falls school is located.

Budgetary Impact: Increase the Water Utility Operations budget by $333,500.00

Recommendation: Motion to approve allocating $333,500.00 from Utility Capital Reserve for the 902 Booster Pump Station Chemical Feed Project.
