Action Requested: Vote on a request to approve purchase of a roll-off truck for Solid Waste & Recycling
Introduction & Background: As part of the budget process, vehicles are evaluated for mileage and reliability. A roll-off truck was approved for Solid Waste & Recycling in the budget for fiscal year 2021-22.
Discussion & Analysis: NC General Statutes allow the County to use group purchasing contracts previously bid through a competitive bidding process. The State of North Carolina has conducted a competitive bid which includes roll-off trucks, Bid #201900174. TranSource, Inc. was awarded contract 070E which includes roll-off trucks.
How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: These trucks allow us to efficiently collect trash and recycling from across the county. In addition, newer diesel trucks are more efficient and produce less pollutants than older trucks. Replacing our older trucks should save on maintenance cost, fuel cost, and help protect the environment due to lower emissions.
Budgetary Impact: The truck cost of $180,342.00 is included in the Solid Waste and Recycling approved fiscal year 2022 budget.
Recommendation: Approve a request to purchase a roll-off truck for Solid Waste & Recycling and authorize the County Manager to sign any documents related to the purchase.
