Abstract
Action Requested: Vote on a request from the Chatham County Board of Commissioners to adopt a resolution requesting the NCDOT Division of Highways abandon the parcel containing the old US 15-501 road bed adjacent to parcel #62221 owned by Chatham County located at 9251 US 15-501 North, Pittsboro, NC 27312.
Introduction & Background: Chatham County owns parcel #62221 located at 9251 US 15-501 North, Pittsboro (adjacent to the Briar Chapel development). The County has dedicated that parcel to locate an EMS base for the northern portion of the County. Through the design process for the EMS base, it was determined that having access to the old 15-501 road bed in front of parcel #62221 would be very beneficial to the County. NCDOT is agreeable to transfer their portion to the County for recombination and the attached resolution and petition need to be executed to initiate the abandonment and transfer process between NCDOT and Chatham County.
Discussion & Analysis: It is being requested that the BOC approve the request for NCDOT to abandon the maintenance of the old 15-501 road bed adjacent to the County owned parcel #62221 per the resolution and petition attached to this agenda item.
