Abstract
Action requested: Vote on a request to set a public hearing for the April 20th commissioners meeting to receive public comment on the proposed borrowing to purchase radios and to construct and equip radio towers in the county.
Introduction & Background: The County is seeking financing to construct and equip several radio towers throughout the county and to purchase radios for emergency personnel. The Commissioners have approved, through a project ordinance, the construction of these towers and the purchase of the radios as part of the radio system upgrade project. The total cost of the project is approximately $18,000,000.
Discussion & Analysis: A public hearing is required before the County can borrow funds for this project. In order to meet the May Local Government Commission meeting on the proposed borrowing a public hearing will need to be held at the April 20th Commissioner’s meeting. Notice of the hearing will be published in the newspaper 10 days prior to the hearing date.
Budget Impact: Debt service for the proposed borrowing is already factored into the County’s debt model.
Recommendation: Motion to set the public hearing for the proposed borrowing at the April 20th commissioners meeting.
