Title

Vote on a request to adopt a Resolution Supporting Juvenile Crime Prevention Council Allocation Expansion

Abstract

Action Requested: Vote on a request to adopt a resolution supporting an expansion for the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council due to the pending changes regarding “Raise the Age” going into effect December 2019.

Introduction & Background: Juvenile Crime Prevention Council is a partnership between the State of North Carolina and the County to ensure services for court involved and at-risk juvenile within the local community.

The State of North Carolina has not decided upon a budget for the expansion at this current time, however we are seeking the County’s support for the potential program expansion and successful implementation.

Discussion & Analysis: Raise the Age legislation will increase the need for immediate and age-appropriate sanctions and diversion services for juvenile offenders and those at-risk of delinquency.  JCPC funding has not increased in the past nine years and the effort to immediately and effectively address juvenile offending behavior will be an evidenced based investment in the future of the youth in our community.

In summary:

Juvenile Crime Prevention Council is seeking Chatham County Commissioners support in potential program expansion and successful implementation.

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan:

Budgetary Impact: We are not seeking any additional funds at this current time.

Recommendation: Motion to adopt a Resolution Supporting Juvenile Crime Prevention Council Allocation Expansion
