Vote on a request to approve a contract for Stephenson & Fleming, LLP to provide legal services for Social Services for the fiscal year 07/01/2018 to 06/30/2019.

Abstract

Action Requested: Vote on a request to approve a contract for Stephenson & Fleming to provide legal service for Social Services for the fiscal year 07/01/2018 to 06/30/2019.  Legal services to include:

 

1.                     Child Protective Services - Consultation, legal advice and representation in all legal matters arising under Article 44, Chapter 7B of the North Carolina General Statutes.

2.                     Foster Care and Adoption Programs - Consultation, legal advice and representation in all legal matters arising under Article 44, Chapter 7B of the North Carolina General Statutes.

3.                     Appellate Work as needed.

4.                     Contractor may attend one or more training sessions relating to Social Services Law.

                     

Introduction & Background: The above listed contract is necessary for the Chatham County Department of Social Services to carry out specific functions related to program administered by the Department.  In order for the Department of Social Services to be able to dispense funds and claim reimbursement for funds expended for this contract, valid contract covering the current fiscal year must be in place.

                     

Discussion & Analysis: In order to conduct the agency’s business in a manner that meets federal and state standards, helps clients achieve satisfactory outcomes, and meets community expectations, Chatham County Department of Social Services must contract with an array of providers.  The contract listed above is necessary and essential for the agency to properly conduct business FY 18-19.

Budgetary Impact: Contract is covered by a line item in the budget for FY 18-19. No funds are being requested.
