A request from the Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) to be transitioned to meet on an as needed basis operating under the County Advisory Committee Policy
ABSTRACT
Action Requested:
TAC recommends that the Board of Commissioners consider transitioning the TAC to meet on an as needed basis operating under the County Advisory Committee Policy and revise the policy at an upcoming meeting.
Introduction & Background:
The Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) met on March 27, 2018 to discuss the future of the committee. The committee voted to recommend to the Board of Commissioners to consider designating the TAC to meet on an as needed basis, still following the County Advisory Committee Policy requirements when it does meet.
Discussion & Analysis: Over the past few years the committee has had fewer action items to discuss during their meetings resulting in decreased attendance and lack of a quorum. The primary tasks of the TAC has been providing input and direction on the County Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) and the NCDOT SPOT process for project prioritization. The CTP has been completed and will not need to be updated for several years and the SPOT process is updated every two years. TAC recommends that it will meet only as requested by one or more of the following: County Board of Commissioners, Planning Department, or the Committee/TAC Chairperson. The Advisory Committee Policy would be amended to reflect this change, if approved by the Board of Commissioners. This request is similar to action taken for the Solid Waste Advisory Committee in 2015.

Recommendation:
TAC recommends that the Board of Commissioners consider designating the TAC to meet on an as needed basis under County Advisory Committee Policy and that the County Advisory Committee Policy be revised at an upcoming meeting of the Board of Commissioners to reflect this change.
