Title

Vote on a request to accept $25,000 Spotlight Award from Healthiest Cities & Counties Challenge Funds

Abstract

Action Requested: Vote on a request to approve $25,000 Spotlight Award Healthiest Cities & Counties Challenge

Introduction & Background:

The Healthiest Cities and Counties Challenge was launched in 2016 by the Aetna Foundation, along with the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the National Association of Counties (NACo), to help empower 50 small-to-midsize cities and counties to implement innovative solutions for their local public health issues. Chatham is one of 10 communities receiving recognition through the Challenge with the Spotlight Award and will receive $25,000.

Discussion & Analysis:

Ten winners and five honorable mentions were selected for their ability to address the need to improve opportunities for all Americans - regardless of income, education or ethnic background - to take an active role in healthy living.

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: Specifically, Chatham County was recognized for our collaborative efforts to promote and foster health through the recently adopted Chatham County Comprehensive Plan.

Budgetary Impact: The requested funds ($25,000) to further the work of the Chatham Health Alliance on the community assessment and Health Element recommendations.

Recommendation: Vote on a request to accept $25,000 Spotlight Award Healthiest Cities & Counties Challenge Funds
