Title
Vote on a request to approve grant application to Crime Victim Services of NC Governor's Crime Commission for VOCA funding for domestic violence funding.
Abstract
Action Requested: Vote on a request to approve grant application to Crime Victim Services for funding from the NC Governor's Crime Commission to support advocacy services for victims of domestic violence (DV).
Introduction & Background: Beginning July 2017, Chatham County has funded dv advocacy and support services for Chatham victims due to the uncertain stability of Family Violence Rape Crisis Services, and the County's decision to terminate support of FVRC. Two advocates currently provide services, including safety planning, court support, community resource referrals, and assistance with filing protection orders. The program is intended to be temporary until a viable nonprofit agency can be identified to resume these vital support services and make necessary grant applications. It is assumed that will not happen in 2018. This application and award can support county efforts to continue provision of minimal services for victims and families impacted by domestic violence.
Kit Stanley, Project Director of Family Visitation Serives supervises this program ("Chatham Family Violence Prevention Services"), and will make necessary grant application and reports.
Discussion & Analysis: Award is for a two year period, to begin 10/1/18 and conclude 9/30/20. A 20% match is required and will be funded through county funding and/or NC Council for Women award. The NCCFW grant application is anticipated to be open in January 2018 and would fund a one year period, 7/1/18 - 6/30/19, annual award is approximately $90,000
