Title
Receive Presentation from Chatham County Affordable Rental Housing Task Force and vote on a request to approve to amend the Chatham County Advisory Committees Policy and Addendum A to include the formation of the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee.

Abstract
Action Requested: Receive presentation and form the Affordable Rental Housing Task Force.

Introduction & Background: In accord with the Board's goal of addressing affordable rental housing in Chatham County, staff has worked with TJCOG to staff the Chatham's Affordable Rental Housing Task Force. The committee began meeting on November 3, 2016 and concluded its last meeting on July 25, 2017. The Chatham Affordable Housing Committee was made up of elected officials from the county and towns, and was chaired by Dennis Streets. Meetings included the presentation of local data and demographics, as well as guest speakers and practitioners from the affordable housing field and involved developing a comprehensive affordable housing tool box and action-oriented strategies for each jurisdiction based on committee feedback. There were also several strategies that call for cross-jurisdictional cooperation in order to educate the public, involve stakeholders, and implement processes and policies.
We would like to present an overview of the committee's work, the key priorities for Chatham County, and the recommendation to proceed to the next phase of the process, which includes the formation of an Affordable Housing Advisory Committee. The AHAC would also be staffed by Triangle J staff for the remainder of FY 2018. Both the towns of Pittsboro and Siler City have agreed to help fund this work. The recommendation includes both geographic representation, as well as subject matter experts. Recruitment of members will begin after the committee has been formed.
Discussion & Analysis: The FY 2018 Budget included funds to contract with Triangle J for committee support.
