Vote on a request to approve Sheriff Vehicle Purchase 2017-18.
Abstract
Action Requested: Motion to authorize the purchase of eighteen vehicles (3 Ford Utility’s, 13 Dodge Sedans, 1 Dodge SUV and 1 Chevrolet SUV) on North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association Competitive Bid Award #17-03-0912, items # 92, #157, #162 and #270 in the amount of $457,686.60.
Introduction & Background: As part of the budget process each year, vehicles are evaluated for mileage and reliability for the purpose of law enforcement support. A total of eighteen vehicles were approved for the Sheriff's Office capital outlay budget.
The NC General Statutes allow the County to use Cooperative purchasing contracts through the North Carolina Sheriffs Association. The formal bid process has been conducted by the NC Purchasing & Contract Division. Under the guidelines of G.S. 143-129(e)(3), the State contract purchases are exempt from additional bidding processes.
Discussion & Analysis: The addition of these requested vehicles will benefit this office by replacing higher mileage vehicles which require more maintenance. Delivery of the new vehicles is expected to take 3-6 months.
Budgetary Impact: Funds are included in the Chatham County Sheriff's Office FY2017-18 budget for capital outlay.
Recommendation: Consideration of a request to purchase seventeen vehicles (3 Ford Utility’s, 13 Dodge Sedans, 1 Dodge SUV and 1 Chevrolet SUV) on Sheriffs’ Association Competitive Bid Award #17-03-0912, items # 92, #157, #162 and #270 in the amount of $457,686.60.
