Title
Presentation on Sustainable Facilities Policy
Abstract
Action Requested: Request to adopt the Policy and vote on direction for three projects that have previously registered for LEED.
Introduction & Background:
The Climate Change Advisory Committee recommended that the County adopt a Sustainable Facilities Policy at the December 14, 2016 meeting. On January 17, 2017, the Board directed staff to refine the draft policy and bring back to the BOC for consideration of adoption.
Discussion & Analysis:
County staff has prepared a policy in keeping with the recommendations presented by the Climate Change Advisory Committee. There are three projects that registered for LEED certification prior to the December presentation.
• CCCC New Health Sciences Building
• New Elementary School
• New High School
We recommend that these projects meet the same goals defined in the policy but remain under the previous version of LEED that they registered under.
Budgetary Impact:
We anticipate some increase in design and/or construction costs due to the implementation of LEED. (See the attached memo from CRA.) This additional cost was not included in the CIP Estimates, nor was it factored into the debt model for the three previously registered projects.
Recommendation:
Vote on the adoption of the Sustainable Facilities Policy.
Vote on allowing the three previously registered projects to meet the previous version of LEED.
