TITLE

Vote on a request to accept $10,000 from the NC Wildlife Resources Commission’s Green Growth program to supplement the comprehensive plan and amend the budget to cover the additional cost.

ABSTRACT

Action Requested:

Vote on a request to accept $10,000 from the NC Wildlife Resources Commission’s Green Growth program to supplement the comprehensive plan and amend the budget to cover the additional cost.

Introduction & Background:

The County submitted an application for the NC Wildlife Resources Commission’s (NCWRC) Green Growth grant program in August 2016 for $10,000. In late August the county was notified of the award, which includes up to 80 hours of technical assistance from NCWRC.

Discussion & Analysis:

The funding will supplement the environmental component of the comprehensive plan by building on previous work by the county and the Chatham Conservation Partnership. The funds will be used to conduct a charette leading to the creation of a conceptual design of preferred development patterns in an area of the county with development pressures. This will serve as a guide for elected officials and the community to document the process of creating a preferred development pattern and explain how this pattern will result in minimized impacts on the natural community.

The grant requires an in-kind match of $5,385 and this will be provided in the form of salary, contractual expenses, or work time on the comprehensive plan.

Recommendation:

Vote on a request to accept the $10,000 NC Wildlife Resources Commission’s Green Growth grant subject to approval by the County Attorney and amend the budget by the same amount.
