Vote on a request to approve the appointment of Mr. Jay Farrell to the Firefighter’s Relief Fund Board of Trustees for the Pittsboro Fire & Rescue Department.

Action Requested:
Chatham County Board of Commissioners vote on a request to appoint Mr. Jay Farrell to the Firefighter’s Relief Fund Board.
Introduction & Background:
The NC Firefighter’s Relief Fund was created to financially assist firefighters that may have been injured while volunteering their service to their community. The fund is administered through the NC State Firefighter’s’ Association, with funding derived from one-half of one percent of the fire and lightning portion of property insurance within a rated/certified fire district. A local Firefighter’s Relief Fund Board of Trustees shall be elected/appointed to control the funds for each fire district. The Firefighter’s Relief Fund Board of Trustees is comprised of five (5) people. Two (2) people are elected/appointed by the fire department, two (2) are elected/appointed by the County governing body, and one appointed by the NC Insurance Commissioner (Attachment #2).
Discussion & Analysis:
Fire Chief Daryl Griffin, Pittsboro Fire & Rescue Department, has requested that the Chatham County Board of Commissioners vote on a request to appoint Mr. Jay Farrell to the Pittsboro Fire & Rescue Department’s Firefighter’s Relief Fund Board of Trustees (Attachment #1). Any funds that are used must be pre-approved by the Firefighter’s Relief Fund Board of Trustees and the NC State Fireman’s Association.
