Title
Vote to adopt the 2026 Cape Fear Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan
Abstract
Introduction & Background: The Chatham County Commissioners adopted the Cape Fear Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan (CFHMP) in March 2016. To be eligible to receive future hazard mitigation grant program funds, eligible communities must update and adopt plans on a five-year cycle.
Discussion & Analysis: Chatham County Emergency Management has coordinated a thorough review and update of the Cape Fear Hazard Mitigation Plan with the Towns of Pittsboro, Siler City, and Goldston as well as Harnett, Johnston, Lee, and Moore counties. In addition to maintaining grant eligibility, adoption of this plan increases public awareness of local risks, demonstrates mitigation progress over time, and guides future planning efforts.
How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: This plan becomes more resilient by mitigating, responding, and adapting to emerging threats. It will ensure public safety through adequate resources, plans, and partnerships to keep people and property safe. Lastly, it will strengthen relations with other boards, municipalities, and regional entities to address common challenges and opportunities.
Budgetary Impact: None
Recommendation/Motion: Motion to adopt the resolution of the Cape Fear Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan.
