Vote to approve the name of one private road in Chatham County listed as Timber View Dr.
Abstract
Introduction & Background: The Chatham County Commissioners adopted an ordinance providing the establishment for the naming of private roads in Chatham County. The Office of Emergency Operations has received one petition requesting the naming of one (1) private road located in Chatham County on private property. This petition is not complete.
Section 3(c) of the county road naming ordinance states: "A petition containing the proposed road name, names of adjacent property owners, and the signatures of no less than 60% of the number of adjacent property owners along the road shall be submitted." This petition did not have signatures for 60% of the adjacent property owners.
Discussion & Analysis: As part of its plan to develop the Enhanced-911 Emergency Response System, there is a vital need to maintain the County's established system providing for the naming of private roads. This is important so that there can be no duplications or similarities of these assigned names within Chatham County which could result in confusion and/or delay in the response to these roads, should an emergency exist in that location.
Section 3(a) of the road naming ordinance states: "All private roads accessing three (3) or more dwelling units shall be named in order to conform to the requirements of Chatham County's Enhanced-911 program." This road naming petition is for a third dwelling being added to a private road. However, due to this petition being incomplete, it is the responsibility of the Chatham County Board of Commissioners to name the road. Emergency Operations is recommending a road name of Timber View Dr.
