Action Requested: Vote on a request to accept $2,883.69 Focus on Fathers Smart Start Funds.
Introduction & Background: The Focus on Fathers program is a Smart Start funded program, funded by the Chatham County Partnership for Children. The Focus on Fathers program is designed to increase life skills competencies of Chatham County fathers of children aged 0-5 years of age, and prepare them for a life-long role of mentoring their children. The Focus on Fathers Coordinator provides one-on-one assistance and support through home visits as well as group meetings and family activities.
Discussion & Analysis: Chatham County Employees received an across the board 3% salary increase effective 7/11/2016 and there was an increase in the cost of health insurance. Smart Start requested additional funding to cover this expense for one (1) 75% Social Worker II position. Smart Start also requested funding to purchase educational materials from the Nurturing Parenting Program for Focus on Fathers clients, as well as funds to cover travel and registration expenses for the South Carolina Head Start Fatherhood Conference.
