Title
Vote on a recommendation from the Climate Change Advisory Committee to adopt a Resolution Entitled, “Responsible Climate Action and Evaluation of Low-Carbon Energy Options in North Carolina” and Forward to Governor Stein’s Office
Abstract
Introduction & Background: The Climate Change Advisory Committee has developed a resolution on low-carbon energy options in North Carolina. They are recommending the Board of Commissioners approve and sign the Resolution, then forward it to Governor Stein’s office for his consideration.
Discussion & Analysis: This resolution urges Governor Stein to use all available policy tools to accelerate the State’s transition to affordable, resilient, and carbon-free energy. The Resolution is especially timely given the recent submission of Duke Energy’s most recent Carbon Plan/Integrated Resource Plan (CPIRP) to the North Carolina Utilities Commission. The Climate Change Advisory Committee submits this Resolution as part of its ongoing commitment to evidence-based climate action, energy equity, and long-term community resilience.
How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: The big idea of the Resiliency section of the plan is to become a carbon neutral county. Low-carbon or carbon-free energy generation has a significant impact on the County’s ability to achieve and maintain this goal.
Budgetary Impact: There is no budgetary impact to approving this Resolution.
Recommendation/Motion: Motion to adopt the Resolution entitled, “Responsible Climate Action and Evaluation of Low-Carbon Energy Options in North Carolina” and forward to Governor Stein’s office.
