Abstract
Introduction & Background: Chatham County engaged Hobbs Architects, with The Wooten Company serving as a consulting partner, to conduct a comprehensive Space Needs Study and develop a Master Plan to address the County’s long-term facility and operational needs in response to anticipated growth.
Discussion & Analysis: Chatham County continues to experience significant population and economic growth, resulting in increased demands on County services and operations. As a result, many County departments are approaching or exceeding the capacity of existing facilities, creating a need for strategic expansion and long-term planning.
To address these needs, the County acquired approximately 277 acres near the intersection of U.S. Highway 64 West and Renaissance Drive. Hobbs Architects and The Wooten Company were retained to develop a master plan for a future government campus on this site. The proposed plan outlines a phased development strategy that will allow the County to systematically relocate designated departments to new facilities as space demands increase over time.
The Master Plan is designed to accommodate projected growth for a minimum of twenty years and provides a framework for the efficient delivery of services, improved operational effectiveness, and responsible stewardship of County resources. Approval of the plan will enable the County to move forward with detailed design, engineering, and construction planning necessary to implement the proposed campus development.
