Title
Vote to amend the agreement with Chatham Rescue Squad of Siler City, Inc. to provide rescue and ambulance services to Chatham County
Abstract
Introduction & Background:
Chatham County wishes to continue the agreement with Chatham County Rescue Squad of Siler City, Inc. to provide medical responder services in their primary response district. Medical responders are an important element of Chatham County’s Emergency Medical System and the chain of survival during life-threatening emergencies. The current agreement includes a minimum requirement for the squad to respond to 85% of its dispatched calls to receive its full monthly funding allocation. The rescue squad has not consistently met those performance requirements throughout the year. The rescue squad has indicated to the Office of Emergency Operations that as a volunteer organization they are having difficulty recruiting and retaining members.
Discussion & Analysis:
To incentivize volunteer membership, the rescue squad has requested a one-time release of funding withheld during FY24 and suspension of the 85% performance measure for the remainder of FY24.
How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan:
Budgetary Impact:
No additional funds will be budgeted for FY24. $12,768.98 of budgeted FY24 funds previously withheld to date in FY24 will be paid to the rescue squad. $4,017 will be paid to the rescue squad in April, May, and June 2024 for a total of $12,051.
Recommendation/Motion: Motion to amend the contract with Chatham County Rescue Squad of Siler City, Inc. for rescue and ambulance services to Chatham County.
