Abstract

Introduction & Background: Captain Chris Cooper has served the residents of North Carolina and the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office with unwavering dedication and commitment for over eighteen years, contributing a remarkable total of over twenty-eight years of distinguished law enforcement service to the state.

 

Captain Cooper began his career with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy and, through exemplary service and leadership, rose through the ranks to the position of Captain. During his tenure, Captain Cooper demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to the progress and safety of the Sheriff’s Office and the community, including his role as Project Manager for the successful launch and operation of the new Detention Center, ensuring its functionality, safety, and efficiency.

 

Captain Cooper’s dedication to excellence was further exemplified through his recent accomplishment of securing CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies) accreditation for the Sheriff’s Office, a milestone that reflects his commitment to the highest standards of law enforcement practices. Upon his retirement, Captain Cooper will have complete thirty years of service in the retirement system, marking a career filled with integrity, professionalism, and service to the public.
