Abstract
Introduction & Background: In August of 2025 Chatham County was awarded a $500,000 grant from the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund to fund the construction of various recreation facilities at the county’s new Parker’s Ridge Park in New Hill.
Discussion & Analysis: This grant will fund the construction of the planned restroom/shelter building, the gravel walking loop and pump track facilities which are part of Phase one development of Parkers Ridge Park. The grant contract period runs from 11/1/2025 to 10/31/2028.
How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: This park project will provide recreational opportunities and access to open space, provide equitable access to high quality community options for all, and support the goal of fostering a healthy community.
Budgetary Impact: This is a reimbursement grant, which means the county will pay up front for the project from the Parker’s Ridge Capital Project Ordinance. Reimbursement bills can be submitted quarterly as work on project elements is completed up to the grant award amount of $500,000, with a local match of $743,857.
