Abstract
Chatham County Board of Commissioners re-appointments of the following listed personnel to the Fireman's Relief Fund Board of Trustees:
Mr. Dale Lambert, Bennett Volunteer Fire Department; Bennett Fire District
Mr. Joe Smith, Bonlee Volunteer Fire Department; South Chatham Fire District
Mr. Doug Sirls, Silk Hope Volunteer Fire Department; Hope Fire District
Mr. Jere Julian, Moncure Volunteer Fire Department; Moncure Fire District
Mr. Leon Shaw, Pittsboro Fire & Rescue Department; Circle City Fire District
Introduction & Background:
The NC Fireman's Relief Fund was created to financially assist firefighters that may have been injured while volunteering their service to their community. The fund is administered through the NC State Fireman's Association, with funding derived from one-half of one percent of the fire and lightning portion of property insurance within a rated/certified fire district. Any funds that are used must be pre-approved by the Fireman's Relief Fund Board of Trustees and the NC State Fireman's Association. A local Fireman's Relief Fund Board of Trustees shall be elected/appointed to control the funds for each fire district. The Fireman's Relief Fund Board of Trustees is comprised of five (5) people. Two (2) people are elected/appointed by the fire department, two (2) are elected/appointed by the County governing body, and one appointed by the NC Insurance Commissioner.
