Title

Vote to approve a contract amendment with Stewart Inc. to provide Park Design Services for Parker’s Ridge Park Phase I with a cost savings of $34,700

Abstract

Introduction & Background: On February 19, 2024, the Board of Commissioners approved a contract with Stewart Inc. to provide Park Design Services for Parker’s Ridge Phase One of the 138-acre site located at 994 Pea Ridge Road for $705,400. This proposal reflects an area of approximately 23.5-acres. Also reflected in this proposal is the opportunity to expand the scope of work to include the active play courts if the budget allows. Stewart will work collaboratively with Chatham County and the entire consultant team throughout the project to guide an interdisciplinary approach for creating the park. We will lead the design of specific site elements during the Schematic Design (SD) phase through Design Development (DD), into Construction Documents (CD), and into support for the Bidding Process.

Discussion & Analysis: Within the current scope of the contract, there are several additions that are no longer necessary. Stewart proposes an amendment to the original contract to remove four items from the scope and replace them with four new items due to design changes. This adjustment will result in a cost savings of $34,700, bringing the new contract total to $670,000.

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: The project falls under the scope of Goals 5 - Conserving natural resources, 6 - Provide recreational opportunities, and 10 - Fostering a healthy community

Budgetary Impact: $34,700 credit making the new contract amount $670,700

Recommendation/Motion: Motion to approve a contract amendment with the Stewart Inc. to provide Park Design Services for Parker’s Ridge Park Phase I with a cost savings of $34,700.
