Abstract
Introduction & Background: Chatham County originally entered into an agreement with FirstHealth of the Carolinas, Inc. on May 5, 1997 for FirstHealth of the Carolinas, Inc. to provide emergency medical services within Chatham County at the paramedic level. The current agreement, entered into on July 1, 2020. Chatham County and First Health of the Carolinas, Inc. have agreed to a five-year agreement.
Discussion & Analysis: Chatham County and FirstHealth of the Carolinas, Inc. will enter into a five-year agreement to provide Emergency Medical Services (EMS) at the paramedic level. In addition to managing traditional elements of an EMS system such as medical direction, personnel, continuing education, supplies, equipment, an ambulance fleet, and billing; FirstHealth provides transportation for the deceased, participates in local emergency planning and exercises, conducts community outreach, and serves on the Regional EMS Advisory Council.
