Action Requested: Vote to Approve Proposed Amendment to the Chatham County Retiree Health Insurance Policy
Introduction & Background: The Chatham County Retiree Health Insurance Policy was adopted on August 16, 1999. From time to time, it is necessary to review the current policy and recommend changes that further clarify intent or are no longer relevant or accurate. After careful review, one change is recommended to expand the coverage to those approved for disability retirement with the North Carolina Retirement System and meet the years of service requirements set forth by the county.
Discussion & Analysis: Currently, only employees that qualify for full service retirement with the North Carolina Local Government Retirement System and have at least 20 years of service with Chatham County are eligible for retiree health insurance up the age of 65. This amendment would allow those employees that have been approved for disability retirement by the retirement system medical review board and have at least 20 years of service with the county to also be covered under the provisions of the retiree health insurance policy.
