Abstract

Action Requested: Vote on a request to accept $20,000 Maternal and Child Health Funds

Introduction & Background: In Session Law 2015-241. The North Carolina General Assembly allocated funding to be distributed to local health departments to implement evidence-based strategies that are proven to lower infant mortality rates, improve birth outcomes, and improve the health status of children ages birth to five.  The law requires the establishment of a competitive process to award local health departments to implement evidenced-based strategies to achieve these aims starting in FY 2016-17.

Discussion & Analysis: The purpose for these funds is to enable local health departments to complete planning and capacity building activities to implement evidence-based strategies to lower infant mortality rates, improve birth outcomes, and/or improve the overall health status of children ages birth to five.

A report shall be submitted to the Women’s and Children’s Health Section, Division of Public Health (DPH) on the process, findings, decisions, and use of data in developing priorities and solutions.

Budgetary Impact: No Local Funding requested
