Vote on a request to approve the Chatham County Parks and Recreation Comprehensive Master Plan.

 

Abstract

Action Requested:

Motion to approve the Parks and Recreation Comprehensive Master Plan.

                     

Introduction & Background:

The county hired McAdams to develop the 2008 Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan for a ten year planning horizon. The plan included community engagement, parkland, greenways, blueways, health and wellness, programming, staffing and operations.

                     

Discussion & Analysis:

The master plan consultants conducted three open house meetings, held stakeholder’s meetings, attended the Chatham Health Alliance Focus Group meeting, conducted a staff meeting on SWOT, Visioning and Department Debriefing, two steering committee meetings, two Parks and Recreation Advisory committee meetings, and a county wide scientific survey. The consultants presented the Parks and Recreation Comprehensive Plan summary of findings and draft recommendations at the December 17, 2018 Board of Commissioners meeting.

 

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan:

Provide recreational opportunities and access to open space.

To update the Parks and Recreation Comprehensive Master Plan will provide recommendations  for recreational opportunities and access to open space.
