Vote to adopt a resolution Honoring Hispanic Heritage Month

 

Abstract

Introduction & Background: National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed annually from September 15 through October 15 to recognize and celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans whose heritage traces to Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15, which coincides with the independence anniversaries of several Latin American countries. Chatham County is home to a vibrant Hispanic and Latino community that contributes significantly to the County's cultural richness, economic vitality, public service, education, agriculture, and local businesses. Adoption of this resolution demonstrates the Board's commitment to recognizing and honoring these contributions and celebrating the diversity that strengthens our community.

                     

Discussion & Analysis: The proposed resolution acknowledges the important role Hispanic and Latino residents play in Chatham County and encourages all residents to participate in activities and events that celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Recognition of cultural heritage fosters greater understanding, inclusion, and appreciation among community members while highlighting the achievements and contributions of Hispanic and Latino individuals throughout history and within Chatham County.
