ABSTRACT
Action Requested: Vote on a request to approve the contract for Bordeaux Construction to serve as the Construction Manager in the construction of the new Animal Shelter.
Introduction & Background: Chatham County requested statements of qualifications for Construction Manager at Risk (hereafter referred to alternatively as "CM" or "CM at Risk") services for the planned Chatham County Animal Services Facility. Providing animal housing capacity for 139 to 143 animals is suggested, which accommodates growth and expanded programs such as more animal adoption housing and the spay/neuter clinic. The total space needs allocation required for the program areas and animal housing capacity is approximately 20,000 square feet. New construction totaling approximately 16,000 square feet for an expanded shelter would augment a renovation and refurbishment of the 4,030 square foot existing animal shelter. The current facility is located on a 10 acre site which will allow sufficient space for the necessary expansion. County facilities adjacent to the current animal shelter site such as water, sewer and power utilities will be sufficient for any new and renovation construction for the shelter. Please note that the existing Animal Shelter will need to remain open during the construction of the new facilities. Upon receipt and review of the RFQ's, it was agreed upon by the review committee to extend the offer of the construction of the project to Bordeaux Construction. After negotiating the preconstruction fee and construction fee percentage, the aforementioned contract has been set to be approved by the BOC.
Discussion & Analysis: It is being requested that the BOC approve the contract for Bordeaux Construction to allow the processes to begin for the construction of the new Animal Shelter.
