ABSTRACT Vote to approve the request to expand the FirstHealth of the Carolinas response district to include the far north eastern portion of Chatham County, known as Parkwood.

Introduction & Background: In the past we have contracted with Durham EMS/Parkwood Fire and Rescue for the far North Eastern portion of the county. We obtained pricing to continue the contract with Durham along with pricing from FirstHealth of the Carolinas. Durham's first year price quote will be $603,550, the second year price quote will be $326,245. FirstHealth of the Carolinas price quote will be an additional $350,000.
Discussion and Analysis: Due to issues within Parkwood Fire Department it is unable to continue to provide Emergency Medical Services in the Northeast portion of Chatham County. Durham County EMS has agreed to provide the medical service in this area. Durham County agreed to continue service for Parkwood for the remaining portion of fiscal year 2015 with a cost per call. As you can see in the above pricing, FirstHealth of the Carolinas is more cost effective.
Budgetary Impact: Approximately $350,000 per year added to the current FirstHealth contract.
Recommendation: Vote on a request to approve the expansion of FirstHealth of the Carolinas response district to include the far north eastern portion of Chatham County.
