Title
Vote to adopt and present a Resolution to proclaim April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month
Abstract
Introduction & Background: The Chatham County Board of Commissioners has regularly passed a proclamation proclaiming April Child Abuse Prevention Month, coinciding with the national recognition.
Discussion & Analysis: Staff and community partners from many agencies and organizations, including the Chatham County Public Health Department and Department of Social Services, work together to promote awareness of child abuse and neglect during the month of April. This year, Wear Blue Day is April 4th.
Those in attendance on March 17, 2025 are encouraged to wear blue.
How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: This relates directly to the Comprehensive Plan goal to “Foster a Healthy Community.” Research has shown the profound impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) on a range of long-term health outcomes. Thus, reducing the incidence of child abuse not only improves quality of life during childhood, but promotes health throughout the life course.
Budgetary Impact: None
Recommendation/Motion: Motion to adopt and present a Resolution proclaiming April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
