Abstract
Introduction & Background: The Department of Social Services (DSS) requires specialized legal representation to support its Child Welfare and Adult Services divisions, which involve complex and highly regulated proceedings in District Court. These matters include abuse, neglect, and dependency cases; termination of parental rights; guardianship proceedings; and other actions necessary to protect vulnerable children and adults.
Discussion & Analysis: Stephenson & Fleming have provided legal services to Chatham County DSS since 2016 and bring a high level of subject-matter expertise as Board Certified Child Welfare Specialists. Their continued representation ensures consistency in legal strategy, familiarity with local court practices and stakeholders, and the ability to efficiently manage a caseload that requires timely action and strict adherence to statutory mandates and court deadlines.
