Vote to appoint David McKay as an Alternate member of the Board of Equalization and Review with the term expiring on December 21, 2027

 

Abstract

Introduction & Background: The purpose of the Board of Equalization and Review is to hear, and review appeals of listings and valuations placed upon taxable property located within Chatham County.

This board is governed by NCGS 105-322 and consists of five members, one from each Commissioner’s district, each having one vote. Two alternates shall also be appointed by the full Board of Commissioners.

                      

Discussion & Analysis: Currently the board has three vacancies. One in District 1 and two alternate members.

 

Below is a list of the current board members and term expirations:

District 1 - Vacant - Peter Hewitt - December 31, 2024 (passed away on 7-27-2024)

District 2 - Saundra Nettles - December 31, 2025

District 3 - Lilliam Alston - December 31, 2024

District 4 - Bibi Haddad - December 31, 2025

District 5 - Tom Bender - December 31, 2024

Alternate - Vacant - William Lambert (withdrew after 2/19/2024 appointment)

Alternate - Vacant - Jamie Andrews - December 31, 2027 (resigned)

 

Tax Administrator Jenny Williams is recommending the appointment of David McKay as an alternate member of the board.

 

How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: Goal 4: Diversify the tax base and generate more quality, in-county jobs to reduce dependence on residential property taxes, create economic opportunity and reduce out-commuting.

 

Budgetary Impact: No Impact on the Budget.

                     

Recommendation/Motion: Motion to appoint David McKay as an Alternate member of the Board of Equalization with the term expiring on December 31, 2027.
