Abstract
Action Requested: Vote to accept $100,150 in HRSA grant funds through Piedmont Health Services to establish a doula collaborative.
Introduction & Background: Piedmont Health Services (PHS) is serving as the lead applicant for a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)-funded grant to combat maternal health inequities. PHS has engaged UNC Family Medicine and the Chatham County Public Health Department (CCPHD) to support a multi-pronged quality improvement project that will center the voices and lived experiences of individuals experiencing these inequities. The project will focus on perinatal interdisciplinary care team (IDT) workflows to increase the timeliness and comprehensiveness of postpartum care, a virtual maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialty consultation service including e-consult and telehealth capability for women with high-risk conditions served at PHS rural community health centers, and support for community doula training and the development of a community doula collaborative in rural Chatham County, NC.
CCPHD, through the EMBRACe initiative, will lead the effort to develop a sustainable community-based doula program in Chatham County as part of this project.
Discussion & Analysis: This funding will support CCPHD’s focus of the grant. CCPHD expects to receive an additional $178,150 next fiscal year for a total of $278,300 over two years. The total amount for the grant across all agencies is $1.75 million over two years.
