Vote on a request to approve $20,000 Ebola Preparedness & Response Funds
Abstract
Action Requested: Motion to accept $20,000 awarded to the Health Department.
Introduction & Background: Within the last year, the threat of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) has become a top national priority of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Exposure to Ebola poses as a real threat to North Carolina. Public Health Preparedness and Response (PHP&R) has identified systematic approaches to strategically assist the public health authority with the reduction of threats, responsiveness to travelers' needs, and a response system to better protect those potentially exposed individuals and the state of North Carolina. North Carolina is developing and implementing public health plans to better care and protect residents, responders, and persons exposed to and/or exhibiting symptoms of EVD.
Discussion & Analysis: The purpose of Public Health Preparedness & Response is to enhance public health emergency preparedness planning and operational readiness for Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
Funds awarded will be used to develop a Concept of Operations Plan for responding to Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) by May 30, 2016. The Concept of Operations Plan shall include monitoring, reporting, transportation and treatment plans of the healthcare coalitions, communications and information sharing, and worker safety.
Develop an Isolation and Quarantine Plan to include processes and procedures for responding to EVD by May 30, 2016
Collaborate with community partners including hospitals and law enforcement to convene and facilitate: 1. One informational sharing session and one training session, meeting, webinar, and/or conference call for responding to EVD by December 31, 2015.
2. One informational sharing session and one training session, meeting, webinar, and/or conference call for responding to EVD by April 30,2016.
