Abstract
Introduction & Background: Solid Waste & Recycling is planning to install two stationary mixed recycling compactors at Marthas Chapel and Cole Park Collection Centers. Adding these compactors will make our program more efficient by reducing the number of hauls we currently make with our a-frame recycling containers. A compactor can hold more recycling than an a-frame which will reduce hauls required to service the same area. Our department received a grant from NC Department of Environmental Quality to help offset some of the cost of the mixed recycling compactor thru the 2026 Community Waste Reduction and Recycling Grant. Solid Wate & Recycling is also replacing two trash compactors at Asbury and Cole Park Collection Centers. These compactors have been in place for a few years and are at the end of their life cycle.
