Abstract
Introduction & Background: In 2023 Chatham County agreed to partially fund a project with the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts to install courtroom audio visual systems in all participating counties statewide. The project is being administered by the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts utilizing a subcontractor, ePlus, who was awarded the contract through a competitive bidding process. Chatham County would like to expand the project into the two remaining courtrooms.
Discussion & Analysis: The North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts initially desired to fund one of these systems in each county. Chatham County desires to utilize the subcontractor chosen by ePlus to install the courtroom audio visual system in two additional courtrooms in the Justice Center.
How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: N/A
Budgetary Impact: Upon signature of the attached Memorandum of Agreement, Chatham County will be responsible for the installation costs on a time and material basis. The attached MOA estimates the cost per courtroom at $100,000.00 which would project the total cost to the county to be $200,000.00 for two courtrooms. The total cost will depend on a variety of factors, but indications from North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts is that the cost per courtroom has previously been below the estimated costs for other participating counties.
Recommendation/Motion: Motion to approve a Memorandum of Agreement with North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts for the installation courtroom audio visual system to be used to aid in Chatham County remote court proceedings.
