Title

Vote to purchase and install pet waste containers through Chatham Soil and Water Conservation District and CCAP cost share program.

Abstract

Action Requested:

Approve pet waste containers purchase and installation through the Chatham Soil and Water Conservation District and CCAP cost share program.

Introduction & Background:

Chatham Soil and Water Conservation District offers cost share funding through the NC Community Conservation Assistance Program to improve water quality on non-agricultural land. Waste containers at the Northeast Park would provide proper disposal locations for animal waste, preventing nutrients and other pollutants from entering the waters of the state. It would also provide an educational opportunity for the general public. In 2011, Southwest Park, Northwest Park and Bynum Park were awarded CCAP funding for the same practices (pet waste receptacles) through this program and are continually in use and maintained.

Discussion & Analysis:

Waste receptacles at the Northeast Park would provide proper disposal locations for animal waste, preventing nutrients and other pollutants from entering the waters of the state. It would also provide an educational opportunity for the general public about proper disposal of waste.

Budgetary Impact:

This is a 25% reimbursement grant to be installed in the FY 17 budget. Total amount requested $1,599. The county’s match $533.

Recommendation:

Vote to approve pet waste containers purchase and installation through the Chatham Soil and Water Conservation District and CCAP cost share program.
