Receive a presentation from Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO)

Abstract
Introduction & Background: The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) serves as the regional transportation planning organization for Wake, Johnston, Harnett, Granville, Franklin, and Chatham Counties. In April of 2023, CAMPO's Executive Director, Chris Lukasina, presented to the Board of Commissioners regarding new MPO boundary options following the 2020 census. This included the implications of integrating Chatham County into CAMPO, covering costs, funding opportunities, and programming. The BOC responded actively to the presentation, directing CAMPO and DCHC MPO to proceed with Chatham's inclusion in CAMPO and the boundary adjustments needed between DCHC and CAMPO within Chatham. At the June 17th, 2024, BOC meeting, the BOC approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Chatham County to join CAMPO. With Chatham now a new member of CAMPO, the organization wishes to extend a welcome through a presentation to the BOC. The presentation will provide an overview of CAMPO as an organization, the benefits and responsibilities of our membership, and the opportunities we receive as members of CAMPO.

Discussion & Analysis: The discussion will allow the BOC to gain a comprehensive understanding of CAMPO as an organization and how our involvement will benefit transportation planning needs in Chatham County and surrounding areas. CAMPO staff are encouraging questions, suggestions, and concerns to be shared by the Board regarding any topics related to CAMPO and our involvement with the transportation planning organization.
