Abstract

Action Requested: Vote on a request to approve $17,000 of UNC Institute for the Environment grant funds for the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program.

                     

Introduction & Background: Chatham County Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention program currently works with any families who have children between the ages of 0-6 identified with elevated blood lead levels.  The primary goal of the program is to educate property owners, parents/guardians, and public health partners on lead poisoning prevention.

                     

Discussion & Analysis: The grant provides funding to purchase brochures about preventing lead poisoning in homes built prior to 1978 as well as items related to lead remediation plans and investigations.
