Vote to accept $13,500 in NEHA grant funds for CCPHD Environmental Health retail food program Retail Program Standards
Abstract
Introduction & Background: The Chatham County Public Health Department (CCPHD) Division of Environmental Health is serving as the lead applicant for a National Environmental Health Association (NEHA)-Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Retail Flexible Funding Model (RFFM) grant to support ongoing efforts to meet the Retail Program Standards (RPS). The CCPHD Division of Environmental Health Retail Food Program has been enrolled in the voluntary RPS since 2011 demonstrating continued progress towards meeting the RPS. The RPS include nine standards that define effective and responsive retail food programs for the regulation of foodservice and retail food establishments:
1. Regulatory foundation
2. Trained regulatory staff
3. Inspection program based on hazard analysis critical control point principles,
4. Uniform inspection program
5. Foodborne illness and food defense preparedness and response,
6. Compliance and enforcement
7. Industry and community relations
8. Program support and resources
9. Program assessment
Discussion & Analysis: This funding will support the CCPHD Division of Environmental Health Retail Food Program in meeting and auditing RPS standard 1, 2, 3, 7, and 9. The funding will also support training for Food, Lodging, and Institution program staff. The total amount for the grant is $13,500 and ends March 31, 2026.
