Title
Receive a presentation from the Conservation Working Group (CWG)
Abstract
Introduction & Background: The CWG is an interdepartmental initiative that seeks to bring together and promote collaboration among 12 Chatham County departments/agencies whose work addresses the County’s environmental goals. Each of these departments selected a staff representative who attends monthly meetings. The Board of Commissioners has requested that the CWG provide bi-annual presentations to the Board.
Discussion & Analysis: The presentation will provide an overview of the CWG and its goals. Updates on recently completed conservation work from November of 2025 to June of 2026 will also be presented. Information is provided by the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources; GIS; Environmental Health; Solid Waste & Sustainability, and Planning Departments. In addition, the presenters will complete a walk-through of the newly released Conservation Dashboard, highlighting its purpose, goals, and next steps.
How does this relate to the Comprehensive Plan: The CWG was formed in an effort to better coordinate and collaborate Chatham County’s progress towards achieving the environmental goals within the Comprehensive Plan. The Planning Department in collaboration with the CWG recently completed the Conservation Dashboard. This project marks the completion of defining the metrics set out in the Plan to illuminate work already completed and opportunities where future effort could be pursued.
Budgetary Impact: N/A
Recommendation/Motion: Receive the presentation from the CWG who are providing updates on conservation work across the Chatham County government.
