Vote to award the recreation grants to Sprott Youth Center for $7,550 and Pittsboro Skatepark for $12,750 as recommended by the Recreation Advisory Committee
Abstract
Introduction & Background: Two recreation agencies submitted applications that qualified for the Grants to Recreation Agencies process. The agencies attended the Recreation Advisory Committee meeting on 5/15/24 to do presentations about their requests. The allocated amount for agencies is $20,300 and a total of $28,050 was requested. Descriptions of the requests are listed below:
Sprott Youth Center- Located in Moncure. Requested $7,550
1) Basketball Open Gym Attendant: 3hrs/week for 50 weeks @ $23/hr=$3,450
2) Pickleball Open Gym Attendant: $25 total per 2hr session, twice per month=$600
3) Pickleball Supplies for Open Gym: 2 nets, 24 balls, 8 paddles, and line marking kit. Estimated Cost=$500
4) Facility Improvements/Repairs to Gymnasium=$3,000
Pittsboro Skatepark- Located in Pittsboro. Requested $20,500
1) Funds will be utilized towards the construction of the concrete skatepark that is breaking ground in November 2024. The skatepark will be located at McClenahan Street Park (Address is 290 Pittsboro Elem School Rd, Pittsboro, NC).
2) They obtained the land through a partnership with the Town of Pittsboro.
Discussion & Analysis: The Recreation Advisory Committee used the matrix score system and general discussion to make their recommendations.
Sprott Youth Center scored 148. The Recreation Advisory Committee recommends to fully fund their request of $7,550.
Pittsboro Skatepark scored 137.57. The Recreation Advisory Committee recommends awarding the remaining funds of $12,750.
